Amanda joined HOPE in May of 2018. She completed her Master’s of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Illinois University. She has worked with children and families in community settings since November 2014 including work in child protective services. Amanda has completed a certification in trauma-informed counseling and has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families with many backgrounds and histories. Amanda has been trained in Theraplay™ techniques, Brainspotting, play therapy techniques, and LGBTQ/Trans ally training. She has also completed many trainings through Illinois DCFS to better understand and support youth in foster care and re-establishing families. Amanda is an active Early Intervention Specialist where she works with children from birth to 3 years old and their families to address social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Amanda uses a client-centered approach while helping the clients focus on the goals they want to achieve. She is passionate, empathetic, and a firm believer of utilizing many tools and techniques for the clients to receive a well-rounded counseling experience.
Amanda has a rescue dog named Darla who she completely loves. Amanda enjoys going on hikes, kayaking, and just spending time in nature. She is also a lover of farms and cows and you'll find cow collectables all around her office. Amanda loves working with kids and utilizing play therapy in her sessions. Her favorite part about play therapy and working with kids is that it requires you to think quickly, use creativity, and find ways to make counseling engaging and fun.
