M.A. Intern - Clinical Mental Health

Joe joined Hope Child and Family Counseling as an intern in January of 2021. He currently works as a full-time Firefighter in a busy suburban department, where he served as a Paramedic for 15 years. He has a BS in Fire Service Management from Southern Illinois University and is completing coursework towards his Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bradley University.

Joe understands the complexities of vicarious and cumulative trauma and uses a strengths-based approach to help cultivate post-traumatic growth and support resiliency that already exists in the client. He uses person-centered and mindfulness approaches to help clients gain new perspectives and reframe negative life experiences into events to be used for personal growth. Joe has also begun to enjoy play therapy with younger clients and is interested in continuing to learn Adlerian play therapy.

Joe has been married for 16 years and has one teen and one grade-schooler. He enjoys accomplishing projects around the house, working in the garage, and being outside.
