Mariah Thomson
MFT – Marriage and Family Therapist

Mariah joined HOPE in October of 2021. She attained her Master’s degree in 2021 from
Northern Illinois University in Human Development and Family Sciences with a specialization
in Marriage and Family Therapy. Mariah also attained a Bachelor’s degree from Northern
Illinois University, majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. Mariah is currently
working on earning her official licensure through the state of Wisconsin as an MFT.
Due to her background in MFT, Mariah enjoys taking a family-systems approach to assessment,
focusing on the unit along with the individual. Mariah enjoys working with clients from varying
populations including children, adolescents, teenagers, adults, couples, and families. She values
the importance of emotional exploration, expression, and validation; along with the importance
of one’s own personal strengths. She highlights the significance of balance between social,
behavioral, and emotional interventions. Mariah acknowledges that every individual is different,
requiring different therapeutic approaches and progressing at their own pace with their preferred
treatment goals. Mariah prides herself on her ability to communicate and connect with others.
In her free time, Mariah’s hobbies include: exercising, traveling, practicing self-care, and
spending time with friends and family.
