Marissa joined HOPE in September of 2014. Prior to becoming a counselor, Marissa has experience working in the domestic violence field and is 40-hour domestic violence certified. Additionally, she is a member of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV). Marissa has experience and training working with first responders of all types. First responders face trauma exposure and re-exposure frequently in their line of work. Marissa is passionate about helping survivors of trauma heal by transforming the trauma with the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), so it is no longer causing present-day distress. Her experience in helping survivors find healing and growth is combined with her enthusiasm for advocating for survivors of trauma. Marissa has created the group HOPE for Trauma Survivors (HTS). Clinicians in this group have extra training when working with children, adolescents, and adult survivors of trauma.
