Furrunnecia Newberry

LPC – Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Furrunnecia is a Northern Illinois University graduate with her Masters in Education. She was offered employment at her original internship with Norman C Sleezer Youth Home in Freeport. During her time at NCS she worked with teens that were human trafficked, LGBT youth, adoptees, and more.
She served as a therapist to girls in the DCFS system burdened with trauma, abandonment, or some other form of abuse. She is thoroughly trained in Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and continues to educate herself on trauma.
She has a history of working for the Rosecrance Inpatient Treatment facility for adolescents with Substance abuse and Mental Health struggles. She worked extensively with the families in this position, addressing mental health and addiction from a family dynamic perspective.
Furrunnecia currently works with the Winnebago County Probation system as an in house therapist to adult probationers that have higher levels of recidivism correlated to their mental health. However, she simply cannot get enough of working with others and helping them seek the change they desire, so she also is part of the HOPE Child and Family Team part-time. At HOPE she is partial to adolescent clients, but also actively works with adults and younger children.

Furrunnecia’s favorite quote is, “Be the Change that you Seek” as it encourages us to be what we want to see in the world, and she supports the use of therapy to help facilitate that.
